Historically SpeakingThe Norwich Historical Society is in receipt of a very valuable and useful gift. So often, gifts are of a historic nature; old books and important historic documents. In this day and age of the computer, the Society has just received a gift of two, high-quality, Dell Latitude laptop computers. It is a valued tool that could not ever be afforded by the Society, but the gift, valued at some $6,000, will enable the Historical Society to operate in the computer age. These laptops will allow for presentations on big-screen televisions or for overhead projection and are compatible for use with video CDs and DVDs. Geoff McLean, of McLean Research Associates, is a board member of the Society and responsible for the Web site norwichhistoricalsociety. org. In time the laptops will be programmed to also assist in administrative functions of the Norwich Historical Society. For example, membership and other functions will be able to be operated from home by board members who will tie in to the Society's main computer, located at Buckingham Memorial Gifts of this nature are welcome and, of course, represent a charitable gift, which is tax deductible for businesses or corporations.
