Historically SpeakingThe Norwich Historical Society newsletter is in the mail. The letter reviews the Society's accomplishments for the summer and the fall months and was mailed to all 675 members and to 1,000 others who the Society hopes may join. "Historically Speaking" covers the Norwich invasion of London to present Benedict Arnold with his first gravestone, 223 years after his death. Samuel Huntington's tomb is in the second phase of reconstruction with generous contributions from the Mohegan tribe and the R. S. Gernon Trust. There also is news of oral history and other projects. The most important announcement concerns the publication of a historic book titled, "Norwich - The 9-Mile Square." It will be on sale next October and will feature the history of Bozrah, Franklin, Sprague, Lisbon, Preston and Norwich that were all part of the 9-mile square of land that Uncas gave the settlers back in the mid 1650s. The Society is making it possible for people who financially support the book with tax deductible pledges to preserve their family name or memorialize a relative friend. There will be more in the Norwich Bulletin in the coming days.
