Historically SpeakingThe Norwich Historical Society, in this season of Thanksgiving, wishes to thank the many who have helped us over the past year. Out thanks to the Norwich Bulletin for printing this weekly column; to WICH/WNLC for allowing us to broadcast our plans; to Adelphia Cable Television and Holly Morin for recording our oral history; to City Attorney Michael Driscoll, accountant Peter Maneri, and Attorney John Cotter who offer their professional services without charge; to the Norwich City Council, Mayor Arthur Lathrop, City Manager Dick Podurgiel and City Comptroller, Joe Ruffo, who receives contributions to be channeled to the Samuel Huntington tomb; to Joe Loyacano, Director of Public Works, for the monumental work he has done with the Norwich Historical Society. There are so many who have done so much, and on this Thanksgiving, we are thankful for them. To Mark Helmboldt, Funeral Director, Church and Allen; the R. S. Gernon Trust, and all of the banks, businesses and individuals who contributed to the Samuel Huntington project; to our guest speaker, Stanley Klos; to the Connecticut Governor's Foot Guard First and Second Company, who not only provided the military honors for the reinterment of Samuel and Martha Huntington, but whose Commander, Major Peter Jenkin, accompanied us to London with 27 other members of the Historical Society to present a crypt stone for Benedict Arnold; to Talon Films, who recorded the event; the Mohegan Tribe who underwrites our newsletter and who has given over $12,000 towards the restoration of Samuel Huntington's tomb; for Ed Lord who came through when we needed him most; and the Chelsea Groton Bank Foundation. So, our thanks and good wishes go to all who have helped us, and our wish also to the board of directors and the 675 members who have made this a very successful year for the Norwich Historical Society. We are thankful. Originally published November 24, 2004
