Historically Speaking

The Norwich Historical Society wishes to thank so many life members who have contributed as sponsors to the book, "The 9-Mile Square."

Membership fees for the society are reasonable to encourage membership. Individual memberships are $25, family memberships are $50, seniors are $10, students are $5, and life membership is $100.

From the society's life members has come an unusual outpouring of contributions to underwrite the cost of the "9-Mile Square."

There are three types of sponsors: The "9-Mile" sponsor is $200, and sponsors will receive two advance copies of the book; honor roll sponsor is $150, and they will receive one advance copy; memorial sponsor is $100 and allows people to remember family, loved ones, or to recognize a friend or family member who is still alive in 20 words or less.

All sponsorship donations will be listed on honor rolls in the front of the book recognizing, with special thanks, those who made it possible.

Society president Bill Stanley has been speaking to historical societies in the region who will have a chapter each in "The 9-Mile Square."

Through the last two weeks, he has spoken to the Franklin Historical Society, and last Tuesday to the Sprague Historical Society.

Each society -- from the towns that were once Norwich and broke away to become independent of Norwich -- will have a chapter in the book. They include Bozrah, Franklin, Sprague, Lisbon, Preston and Griswold/Jewett City.

The society can be reached by phone from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, except Tuesdays, at 886-1776, or you may write to the society at 17 Meadow Lane, Norwich, CT 06360.
