Historically Speaking

The Norwich Historical Society, at their annual meeting, elected three new members to the Board of Directors: Beverly Muldoon, former City Clerk; Harry Swatsburg, retired pharmacist, former member of the City Personnel Committee and historian; and Robert Reed, President of Chelsea Gardens and Station Manager of WICH, WNLC, WCTY and WKNL.

Stepping down from the Board is Corresponding Secretary, Linda-Kate Edgerton who has served since the inception of the society. She will be missed, and President Bill Stanley, at the meeting, lauded her valuable contributions to the society.

The Norwich Historical Society's Board of Directors is a broad cross section of the citizens and organizations from Lottie Scott of the Arts Council, to Roberta Vincent of the Cape Verde Society, Linda Summers of Otis Library, and so many others.

The society welcomes these three legendary community leaders. They will take office at the next meeting of the society which will be held April 25 at the headquarters at Buckingham Memorial. Board of Directors meetings are held at 4:30 p.m. and are open to the public.

The Historical Society is just completing their annual membership drive and is proud to boast that membership now exceeds 700. Just two years ago, the membership was only 40, but public participation and the many programs have encouraged membership. It is the goal of the Norwich Historical Society to have 1,000 members to better influence recognition from state, national and private foundations.

The society can be reached by phone from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, except Tuesdays, at 886-1776 or by mail at 17 Meadow Lane, Norwich.
