Historically SpeakingNorwich's Samuel Huntington is being represented this week at the Republican National Convention as the first President of the United States. Presidential expert, Stanley Klos, of Carnegie, PA, is presenting for all of the convention deleates an exhibition of The Forgotten Presidents ". Under the Articles of Confederation, there were ten men who served a year or less as President of the United States. Samuel Huntington was the first. In l787, the new Constitution was adopted, and George Washington was the first President under the new, actually second, Constitution. Technically, there were ten presidents before Washington, and the " father of our country " was the eleventh president, though he is recognized as the first. Stanley Klos notified the Norwich Historical Society's president, Bill Stanley, by letter, that he will be representing Samuel Huntington to President George Bush and all the delegates with a display of the forgotten founders and copies of his book, "President Who?" Stanley Klos visited Norwich twice last year, was keynote speaker at the re-entombment of Samuel and Martha Huntington and later spoke to the Norwich Historical Society at Slater Hall. On his most recent visit, he presented an original letter from Samuel Huntington to Thomas Jefferson, written and mailed from Norwich, CT.
