Historically SpeakingOlive Buddington, Educational Chairman of the Norwich Historical Society, announced a new program to be adopted by the Norwich Public School System. Ms. Buddington, through the cooperation of Faith Damon Davison, arranged a meeting earlier this month to bring a project teaching Mohegan tribal cultures and history to the Norwich Public School System. Bruce Bozsum, whose tribal name is " Two Dogs " Director of the Cultural Community Program, will coordinate the program with Pam Aubin. Ms. Aubin serves as Curriculum Director for the Norwich Public Schools. It was the desire of the Historica Society to bring a learning program into the public schools and, in the future, to NFA and parochial schools. The program would be to educate area students of the important role the Mohegan Tribe had in the founding of Norwich and the centuries of cooperation. It was the great Sachem, Mohegan Chief Uncas, who gave the land which today is Norwich, Bozrah, Franklin, Sprague, Lisbon and part of Preston, known as the nine-mile square. The Mohegan program has been well received in other area schools and it will bring history and Indian traditions to the public schools in a program that will begin with the new school year in September.
