Historically Speaking

The Norwich Historical Society is asking for your patience. Next year, the Society plans to publish a once - in - a - lifetime book on Norwich with photos from the past century. They ask patience of those who have offered to contribute photos for the publication as they are trying to establish a process where the photos can be scanned into their computer so the original photos can be returned to the donor. Bill Stanley, president of the Society, says he has three pages of names of people who wish to offer photographic treasures from their family photo albums.

The book will be 300 to 400 pages, hard cover with dust wrapper, and it will embrace not only Norwich but the towns adjoining which were once part of Norwich. The book will be photos of historic pictures as well as family snapshots. There will be chapters for Greeneville, Norwichtown, Taftville and all other boroughs and special sections on Lisbon, Salem, Bozrah, Franklin and Sprague.

The copying process of the photo treasures should be underway by the end of August, so Bill asks all to be patient while a convenient and efficient process is set up to capture the treasures from family albums into the Historical Society's computer system. The book is scheduled to be published in the fall of 2005.
