DESCRIPTION:MEDIA ADVISORY \nFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \nContact Information:  Deanna Rhodes\, AICP City Planner \nCity of Norwich 23 Union Street Norwich\, Connecticut 06360 \n860.823.3767 | drhodes@cityofnorwich.org \nCity of Norwich to Hold Public Meeting Regarding Design of Uncas Leap Heritage Area \nMayor Deberey Hinchey is pleased to announce that the City of Norwich will hold a public meeting to solicit input from area residents regarding the grant funded master plan design of the Uncas Leap Heritage Area in Norwich. \nAcquired by the City of Norwich in 2010\, the area has historical significance to the community and has remained a sacred part of Mohegan Tribe history since 1643.   The 1.2-acre landmark along the Yantic River is the site of the Battle of Great Plain between the Mohegan and Narragansett Tribes. \nThe meeting will be held Wednesday\, March 1\, at 7:00 p.m. in the Slater Auditorium on the Norwich Free Academy campus located at 305 Broadway.  A presentation by the project consultant\, Milone & MacBroom\, will include an overview of the planning process and discussion concerning the vision for the site as a cultural heritage and tourism attraction.  Breakout sessions will be held to receive public input. \nThe project is a collaboration between the City of Norwich\, Mohegan Tribe and the Norwich Historical Society.  Funding for the project is made possible through the State of Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD)\, as well as by the City through federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. \nAbout Milone & MacBroom\, Inc.: Milone & MacBroom\, Inc. is one of Connecticut’s largest multidisciplinary planning\, engineering\, water resources\, and design firms and has over three decades of experience.  Milone & MacBroom\, Inc. combines the expertise of our planners\, civil and transportation engineers\, landscape architects\, and both scientific and technical support staff to apply a collaborative approach to each project we undertake.  With its corporate office located in Cheshire\, Connecticut\, the firm is supported by regional offices located in Maine\, Massachusetts\, New Hampshire\, New York\, and Vermont.
