Lights Out for Benedict Arnold Colonial Concert

January 13, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Benedict Arnold was born on January 14, 1741 in Norwich, Connecticut. Benedict Arnold’s name is synonymous with the word traitor. Despite Arnold’s defection to the British, he was a fierce patriot for the Continental Army. There are two sides to Benedict Arnold – patriot and traitor – yet often it is difficult to reconcile both aspects of his complex profile.

The Norwich Historical Society in partnership with the Norwich Arts Center, and the City of Norwich announce three events acknowledging Norwich’s infamous native son’s birthday. The first event will be a zoom panel discussion scheduled for Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 6 p.m. led by scholars on the historical impact of Benedict Arnold’s military success and then treachery. This event is free to attend, but advanced registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Please register for this event at norwichhistoricalsociety.org.

Then, the Lights Out event is scheduled for Friday January 13, 2023 4:30pm with a ceremony held inside City Hall on the second floor, and then outside when the City Hall holiday lights will be turned off. After the ceremony, the Norwich Arts Center is hosting a Colonial Concert in the Donald Oat Theater at 62 Broadway at 5:30pm. Tom Callinan, Rick Spencer and Dawn Indermuhle will perform. Hot cocoa and cookies will be provided. After the event, please consider patronizing one of the many downtown Norwich restaurants and businesses.

Thank you to The City of Norwich for their support. These events are free and open to the public. Special thank you to Chelsea Groton Bank, CT Humanities, and Charter Oak Federal Credit Union for sponsoring these events.
