The Lafayette Trail: Mapping the Farewell Tour

August 24, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

free

The Marquis de Lafayette’s role in the Revolutionary War is widely appreciated. The importance of his Triumphal Return in 1824 as the last surviving Major General of the Continental Army remains largely unknown to the public. The Farewell Tour enshrined Lafayette as a national icon of the U.S. collective memory, a status which he still enjoys to this day.

Join us on August 24 at 6 pm to hear Julien P. Icher, founder of The Lafayette Trail, speak about Lafayette’s Farewell Tour, and the efforts carried out by the team of The Lafayette Trail, Inc. to memorialize General Lafayette’s fourth and last visit to the U.S., in particular the stops he made in Connecticut!

This program is sponsored by the Norwich Historical Society and The Lafayette Trail. To learn more about the program, please contact Regan Miner, Executive Director of the Norwich Historical Society.

This presentation is free and open to the public. The presentation will be hosted on the video conferencing platform Zoom. You must register in advance of the presentation:
