Tour of the Norwich Rose Garden

suggested donationPlease join the Norwich Historical Society on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. for a special tour of the Norwich Rose Garden. Dave Candler, past president of the Connecticut Rose Society, will explain the different varieties of roses, give a brief history of the Norwich Rose Garden, and reveal why Norwich is called “The Rose of New England.”
This tour is sponsored by the Norwich Historical Society and is part of CT Trails Day. We request pre-registration for the tour.
Less than 1 Mile. No restrooms. Please no dogs. No wheelchair access. Please meet at the gazebo.
Parking at the site is limited. Please park on side streets or near the basketball court on Judd Road and walk down the hill.
About our guide:
Dave Candler is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and after serving 25 years as a Navy submariner and in several other positions, worked as a Business Manager with AT&T. He is a past Connecticut Rose Society President, a Master Rosarian and Horticulture Rose Judge, a recipient of the Connecticut Bronze Honor Medal and Yankee District Outstanding Consulting Rosarian, and of the Outstanding Judge and Silver Honor Medal. Dave has lived in the Norwich, Connecticut area for the past 42 years. About 40 years ago he bought a home with three acres of land in Preston, Connecticut. Dave is currently retired and has more time to enjoy his roses, family, photography, and cats.
